AI-powered continuing healthcare assessments, first in the NHS

Through our integration with IEG4, Made Purple technology now supports services across a number of NHS Integrated Care Boards, extending secure digital engagement beyond hospital walls.

ICB nationally to use AI for DST writing

The Challenge

NHS continuing healthcare gives people with the most complex needs a legal right to fully funded care. Every assessment requires a multi-disciplinary team meeting and a detailed Decision Support Tool write-up, produced manually by clinical staff.

Nationally the service is worth £6.5 billion a year. Every hour clinicians spend writing up assessments is an hour not spent with patients.

What We Did

Working with IEG4 and the University of Warwick, Made Purple brought Purple Scribe, our AI-driven transcription and summarisation platform, into the continuing healthcare assessment process at NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire ICB, the first ICB in the country to use AI for Decision Support Tool writing.

Meetings are recorded and transcribed automatically and Purple Scribe drafts domain-specific summaries for nurse review and approval. Clinical staff keep full editorial control before anything is finalised.

The platform is live across all Decision Support Tool meetings within the ICB. The IEG4 integration extends Made Purple technology to services across a number of NHS Integrated Care Boards.

The Results

  • More than 4 hours saved on average per Decision Support Tool write-up
  • Around 70% process step efficiencies in some areas through automatic workflows
  • Efficiencies of more than 30% expected across the full continuing healthcare service beyond the pilot scope
  • Live across all Decision Support Tool meetings within the ICB
