The Challenge

Physical mail is one of the hardest channels for a prison to manage. Every letter and photo has to be checked, processed and delivered by hand. Physical post remains a known route for contraband.

For families the traditional options are slow and costly, whether that is posting letters or paying legacy providers to send photos in.

What We Did

Purple Post replaces physical mail with secure digital messaging. Families send messages and photos from the Purple Post app and the establishment handles them digitally, cutting the contraband risk and processing burden of the traditional mailroom.

Purple Post is live at HMP Parc, HMP Rye Hill and HMP Five Wells. In 2026 Purple Post digital launched, the first technology to let families share GIFs, emojis and multiple images digitally.
